چکیده

Palaeobiogeography is the study of biogeography in the fossil record and pursues as an overall goal tracing the coevolution of the Earth and its biota (Lieberman, 2005). Reconstructing the biogeographical ranges and examining the distribution of fossil organisms has long been an important area of palaeontological research. For example, the recognition that fossils of Mesosaurus, a freshwater reptile, were deposited in South America and Africa, on opposite sides of what is today an insurmountable marine barrier, was one of the key pieces of evidence in Alfred Wegener’s original formulation of continental drift (Hallam, 1981). Distributions of fossil organisms continue to provide critical information for calibrating modern plate tectonic reconstructions (e.g. Scotese & McKerrow, 1990). Palaeobiogeographical studies of higher taxa, such as families and orders, contribute important information about the evolutionary history of clades and their coevolution with the Earth. Emerging Syntheses between Palaeobiogeography and Macroevolutionary Theory

PALAEOBIOGEOGRAPHY is a field marked by important intellectual insights and developments; recently the field has shown signs of emerging insights and new growth. This positive trajectory can be ascribed to several significant developments. Chief among these is our growing knowledge of the fossil record, involving the publication of more detailed palaeobiogeographic studies (Mawson et al. 1998; ...

A new global palaeobiogeographical model for the late Mesozoic and early Tertiary.

Late Mesozoic palaeobiogeography has been characterized by a distinction between the northern territories of Laurasia and the southern landmasses of Gondwana. The repeated discovery of Gondwanan lineages in Laurasia has led to the proposal of alternative scenarios to explain these anomalous occurrences. A new biogeographical model for late Mesozoic terrestrial ecosystems is here proposed in whi...

Phylogenetic analysis of HSP70 gene of Aspergillus fumigatus reveals conservation intra-species and divergence inter-species

Aspergillus fumigatus is a saprophyte fungus, widely spread in a variety of ecologicalniches and the most prevalent aspergilli responsible for human and animal invasiveaspergillosis. The first step to develop novel and efficient therapies is the identificationand understanding of the key tolerance and virulence factors of pathogens. The mainfocus of the present study is to perform the similarit...

New Australian sauropods shed light on Cretaceous dinosaur palaeobiogeography

Australian dinosaurs have played a rare but controversial role in the debate surrounding the effect of Gondwanan break-up on Cretaceous dinosaur distribution. Major spatiotemporal gaps in the Gondwanan Cretaceous fossil record, coupled with taxon incompleteness, have hindered research on this effect, especially in Australia. Here we report on two new sauropod specimens from the early Late Creta...

Phylogeny of gazelles in some islands of Iran based on mtDNA sequences: Species identification and implications for conservation

Different species of gazelles are among the most endangered mammals on the Asian steppes and occur in the central, southern and northwestern regions of Iran. The previous conservation efforts in this region have been incomplete due to confusion about the phylogenetic relationship among various populations. So that, different conservation programs such as ex-situ breeding and transfer of captive...
